I find that assigning midi to A and B in the Cross Fader is strange (one key for each).
When I look at the midi assignments, there is no indication of midi on the A or B, either in Application or Composition Midi yet the Cross Fader moves according to a midi assignment.
What am I missing? I must have assigned it to Application - where/how can you view those assignments?

Most likely you are looking at the App level map while using a different focus. The Application map has two focus modes (layer and deck). You can switch between these in the bottom left of the interface, and read more about them in the mapping chapter of the manual.
