Edge Blending revamp please.

I'd like to suggest a complete revamp of the Advanced output in Arena. Mainly how edge blending works. Before purchasing Arena I used and still use hardware solutions to accomplish blending. ie Spyder or Diventix, or Built in Blending in Projectors. A major different in using a this type system is after you create the edge blend you are left with a single canvas that you can move your elements across that canvas. Arena still restricks you separate outputs. I know that this seems redundant to your composition output, but in a building projection mapping. I would align my projectors with a grid, then work on the blend, and then I would begin to map out slices across the entire canvas.

Also I think that Arena creates jagged edge which needs to be smoothed out.

I'm some what surprised that know one has replied on this thread. Is no one else finding the blending and wrapping onto a 3d surface awkward? How is any one moving slices across projectors?

I think your suggestion would possibly make things less versatile...

I would normally set up my layers and move these across the edge blend rather than a slice.
I can think of situations where I have projected onto multiple shaped surfaces with the same projectors and wouldn't have been able to do a single edge blend as the overlaps were in different places on the different surfaces.

Maybe there could be a way of doing a ' sub slice' within slices or another level of slices that are not related to an output.

I backed my self in to a bit of corner last week. Oh course I didn't fully test this until I was on site. The plan was to have one compilation that would get edge blended on not one but two separate screens. So two identical edge blends. The first pair went together no problem, but as soon as I enabled the first slice on the second blend it effected the first blend. I still think that that the proper way to blend is to assign outputs an edge blend screen. That setup your slice in that edge blend group.

I'm gonna +1 this. Had similar problems when i wanted to map multiple triangles across 2 screens. Would also like to see the edgeblending 'in the background'

We'll give this a look when we revisit the advanced output behaviour for Resolume 5.

It's true that the edge blending behaviour is sometimes a bit too 'assuming', but we don't want to make it too complex either.
