LED wall 3m x 6m high, how to connect?

Hi,

I will make visuals on a LED wall 3m x 6m.

What´s the best resolume output for that? Which resolution is necessary and how can I change from 4:3 to 3:6?

How can I connect to a LED wall? What´s the best? Have got a VGA output and mini DisplayPort on my notebook... which is the best way? I will also speekt with the guys who will bring the LED wall, but would be nice to know first a bit more about it :-)

Thanks a lot for any of your ideas and help.

Have a nice day.

Hi Juladi,
welcome....maybe I can help you.

First: You don't have to change your aspect ratio from 4:3 or 16:9 to for example 3:6

Almost every LED wall has a controller which is connected between your Video Output and the wall.
Resolume Video-Output --> LED controller --> Wall

Ask the LED-wall guys what type of wall they are using and *important* how many pixels every LED module has.

For example:
They are using 1x1 m modules with a 10mm pixelpitch. That means that there are X = 100px and Y = 100px on each module.
The entire wall is 3m x 6m...so you would have 300x600 pixels where you can place content. Now you have to choose your video output resolution. 300x600 fits in 800x600 which is a standard 4:3 resolution.

You can use VGA. But if you and the LED Controller has the possibility to handle DVI you should use a MiniDP-Port to DVI adapter.
The LED-Controller configures all the LED modules to "look" on your defined content region in your output.

I hope that helps?

Here.... a pixelmapping from my last job so you see how it also can look like.

A LED wall is a combination of smaller LED cabinets(arranged like a matrix in rows & columns formation).
Each such cabinet has a resolution specification. If the resolution of a single LED cabinet is for example 160 pixels by 96 pixels, then a LED wall of 3 rows and 5 columns of cabinets will be of the resolution 800 pixels by 288 pixels.
(160x5=800 & 96x3=288).

Note: a LED cabinet with 160x96 resolution means that cabinet has 160 bulbs horizontally(per row) and 96 bulbs vertically(per column).

That means you will be playing your visuals on a 800x288 pixel screen. If you set your composition resolution in resolume same as that of your LED wall, then your clips inside resolume will be rendered at that resolution. So before creating your content its important to find out the screen resolution upon which you will be working at the event. Hope this helps ;)

In your case you have to find out how many pixels horizontally and vertically is your 4m by 2m LED wall is coming upto.

In the example jpeg i've provided each cabinet is 1.2 m x 0.762 m, so the wall is coming upto 6 m by 2.3 m

arindamliveguitar covered all the important points, just wanted to throw in my 2 cents
Always use digital signals (mini dp to dvi or hdmi...) when possible, it will make your life easier by ensure pixel perfection when connecting, sometimes analog signals will have a bit of smear near the edges of the screen in my experience.
Ask your vendor how many panels, and how many pixels per panel, if they don't know ask who makes it and you should be able to harness the infinite power of the internets :D
Cheers

If they don't know, hire another vendor, because if they don't know this information the can't configure it correctly
