This sounds like the common full / limited setting with Nvidia cards.

Check Nvidia Control Panel > Select screen and check below if it's set to Limited or Full Range

I agree, or instead open a new instance of Wires just for examples

FX auto dissolve makes me think about having parameters fade to the new value instead of a hard jump. Can be a nice addition to create better slideshows

Not really a solution but more an after thought, this is exactly what happens when the software gives you complete freedom.

It is kind of the same as mailing Adobe asking why a project takes forever to load when the project has a load of files or layers, right?
