I do a lot of visuals and projection mapping shows with EIKIs of that generation. They are pretty decent. Two of them stacked let me project clear, visible images even on red brick.
But good luck finding replacement lamps.

Does anyone have strong opinions regarding the current Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme?

A note about eGPUs:
Make sure the laptop you get supports 4 lanes of PCIe on the Thunderbolt 3 port. Many laptops with Thunderbolt 3 support only 2 PCIe lanes.

I use that exact setup. No, like, that exact setup. I typically layer 2 video clips, 1 generative layer, and 1 PNG. At 720p I can run at 60FPS with all the effects I want.
In situations where I only use one layer, it can run 1080p 60FPS with effects. Hope this helps!
