I know this is an old post but i would like this as well.
Rerouting stuff is just a pain. A global switch between External and Composition FFT would be excellent.
Or just an override External with Composition button in the settings.

Would also love this. I use a load of old footage which doesn't loop well. This would be an awesome way around that.
