Post by aroestenburg »

Hey,

Are you looking to implement audio mixing in 2.4?

wrong. wrong, wrong wrong. audio would be extremely useful, here is why:

scratching. scratching cannot be understated. many many vjs scratch in their sets and many scratch audio samples sync'd to the video. the reason im not buying resolume right now is because ill have to jump through hoops just to scratch audio samples under the video. most of what id use resolume for wouldnt need audio, but i want to scratch stuff with audio in sync, and doing this with resolume without a simple audio playback option built-in is a pain in the ass.

i dont see mistakenly playing audio during a set like while in chaos mode as a factor in the no-audio argument, because a mute ticker could be easily added to each channel (or a master mute, or you could simply turn audio support off like in preferences) to alleviate that problem. worried about accidentally playing audio? where does it end? theres a lot of things you could accidentally do that would ruin a set, but that doesnt mean you should can everything.

i can tell you this much, it might not be much of a loss to you to miss out on my sale, but i would purchase immediately not to mention every single upgrade if you would add audio support.

I agree that A/V scratching integrated with Resolume would be incredible but I dont think that it should be a priority new feature. Surely Stanton and Serato spent millions in R&D developing a stable and responsive platform for pure audio scratching, which needs high quality audio hardware with rock solid drivers and takes up alot of processing power to work effectively. Imagine getting this technology to work with high quality realtime video simultaneously with the responsiveness of the Pioneer DVD deck which is not perfect anyway. Then imagine getting all this to work within a program which is already being pushed to the limits of what the hardware its run on can handle, and you have some idea of how insanely complex this feature would be to implement. This is definately the way forward but for the moment Ms Pinky on a seperate machine, or DVD deck, with a videomixer is the only way to include A/V scratching in a Resolume set. In a few years when the hardware has improved then maybe the Res team should start working on it but until then they should keep making the steady improvements that have built the best VJ software money can buy.
