MPEG converted to MJPEG
Hi i have been VJing for some time using just DVD,s and a mixer - Now i have resolume and have just downloaded the MJPEG codec - the one recommended here - now i have lots of clips and bits and bobs all on DVD - my question being is it best to load the DVDs into my video editor timeline (sony vegas 7)and simply render over these files with this codec or is it better to convert these Mpeg2 files to AVI then render with the MJPEG codec??? Dont want to sacrifice too much quality if any... Any help much appreciated.
Re: MPEG converted to MJPEG
you may as well just render them straight to mjpeg, there will be no benefit at all to rendering them to avi first and then to mjpeg.

Re: MPEG converted to MJPEG
Thanks for that - codecs are a big issue and i have read its best to stick to one and this one is said to be pretty much the best for resolume.
Do you think much -if any -picture quality will be lost in this conversion??
Also one more question - i have several 8 to nine minute pre prepared video DVD tracks that pretty much sync exactly with the live band playing - would be great to put these into resolume so i have the option to slightly speed them up or slow them down if needed. Does resolume like long 8 -9 minute clips. I have a pretty high spec laptop - 2.6 processor 4 gigs of ram dedicated decent graghics card nvidea 8600.
Cheers again

it is a question of file size. with mjpg you will get a pretty huge file. i use for long clips divx or mpg1. if not evry frame is a keyframe, its better not to scratch.
