Hi,
I am retiring my 4 year old AMD 64 machine and am getting a new one. I want to get 'the best' my computer market offers in hopes it will last a couple years. Here it is:
Intel i7 920 2.66 Ghz 8MB Cache
Biostar T-Power x58 Motherboard
Segate 1.5 Terabyte 7200 RPM 32M Cache
Kingston DDRIII 1333 6G
GTX 275 or ATi 4890 HD (which one is better?)
Thermaltake 650W ATX 2.0 Power Supply
With the fans, case, and other pheriphials its coming out to be 1500 USD... I'd like to know what people think of this setup. My goal is to VJ HD quality clips...
Thanks for your input, I look forward to your critiques/suggestions
VJ machine - Is it crap or a decent setup
Re: VJ machine - Is it crap or a decent setup
Go for the ATi 4890 HD card, we know it works well with Resolume 3. And upgrade your hard-drive to 10.000 rpm if you intent to use a lot of HD clips.

Thanks for the reply.
Its hard to get a 10,000 RPM
The mother board I have chosen doesnt support the Seagate Cheetah and I'd need a controller card. All in all its a bit expensive as well.
I have chosen an alternative of 3 1 terabyte 7200rpm 32m cache in Raid array, will that be comparable to running from a 10K RPM drive?
I've used ATI since 2002 and wasn't going to change but the CUDA systems sound good for transcoding film. Has anyone tried the Nvidia? If not I will go with the ATI

I bet Resolume 3 Avenue will run quite well on it.
