Link audio FFT to timeline

This is COMPLETELY DEVASTATING. I just spent longer than I even want to say pulling my hair out because i couldn't figure out how to drive the time line with audio input... This is the second major item with resolume to discourage me to the point that I wish I could get a refund and just move to a mac platform.

I was going around and around in circles feeling insane and thinking how much of an idiot I am because I can't find this most basic of things.

Resolume three was going to be so next generation now it's just crap! A few of the biggerVJ's that I know of who were using resolume in the past are modul8 users now.

How could the Resolume staff completely ruin resolume for me with these over sites?

I got Wormhole working on my macbook and GeeEs did a tutorial on how to load wormhole in resolume 3 avenue using his pc. Maybe that will solve your issues. his tutorial is posted here:

rhett, I think your reaction is a bit overboard. Resolume 3 is not crap. I agree it would be awesome to control the Timeline with FFT. I was also disappointed that it does not exist anymore. But if you ask nicely in the feature request forum Bart and Edwin might include it in the next update. especially if enough users would benefit from this feature. You have to remember R3 is not just a simple update. The program has been completely reprogrammed from scratch.

There are so many great improvements to the software that outweigh some of the features lost in the transition. (cross platform, infant number of layers, open GL support, DXV codec, slick interface, assignable FX nobs. + much more.) If the FFT / timeline thing is the only thing holding you back from creating an awesome VJ set, you can still use version 2.4. As for module8, I have not used it much but from what I have seen and experienced it is significantly more limiting to what the program can do with layers, FFT and effects.

COMPLETELY DEVASTATING are words people normally use when somehting terrible happens, like a bus running over your dog. I would not use them to descibe a missing feature from Resolume 3. But I understand your frustration for expecting a feature to be there and not being able to find it.

As we have said before, FFT Timeline is on our todo and it's climbing nearer to the top of the list.

Well, I've tried this using Max/MSP, and it works. However, to get smooth response to audio input, the data rate is very high, and I am not sure it is stable. I can post a very simple patch that will link up to 4 clips timeline to audio input, but really, I would not depend on it.

I think whatever Bart & Edwin build will be much better.

Unfortunately I still can't get Wormhole to work. I'm looking into getting a 20db boost pedal for my guitar to make the FFT work!

what happened to this update?
I think this programme is a step backward from version 2 as far as VJ'ing goes, sure, it's technologically more advanced, but there are so many useful features from the previous version missing and it seems they've been sacrificed for useless features; I'd rather 2d effects than 3d, it is video afterall, and does anybody actually incorporate sound into their sets?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this feature is most likely going to be re-introduced in Res4. We made a conscious decision to remove the feature when we moved to Res3, but we didn't expect it to cause such heated feelings in people. So we'll be putting it back, but only in the new rewritten version. I understand this can be frustrating, but we're not going to add features to Res3 anymore, especially ones like these that could potentially break the playback process, which is the primary part of the software.

If this really is an essential part of your working process that you cannot perform live without, it's relatively straightforward to create a workaround using OSC and a third party app like Processing or Max.

Hey Gabemott

I'd love to help you out, but it depends on what OS you're on, and what you're going to be using to get the OSC data (Processing, Max, QC)?

Now that I think about it though, it's even easier to (ab)use the IR OSC Step Automation plugins (http://irworkshop.com/component/content ... automation) for this:
1. Apply any of the plugs (I guess the IR OSCA 4 makes the most sense), on a clip.
2. Set the 'OSC command' to be playhead of the clip (for instance: /layer1/clip1/video/position/values for clip 1 in layer 1).
3. Set 'run' to 0.
4. Set 'step follow' to on.
5. Set 'step 1' to be controlled by external audio FFT using the normal drop down.
6. Sit back and watch that clip bounce to the beat ;)
