I have been experimenting with several different batch converting programs this weekend. As EEL337 said, the Livid Batch Export utility is one option. I just tried it with one clip today and it worked great. Not a bad choice since the program is free! I have yet to tests it with a huge folder of clips however.

Another choice would be Adobe Media Encoder. I can't recommend it since I have had glitches and errors with DXV encoding. The bad experiences was with encoding DXV files only. I converted 200+ files overnight and everyone had a misplaced frame just about 7-9 frame before the end of the clip. I have attached a link to a sample clip. What seemed to be happening is that the last frame (frame no. 69) was randomly inserted in frame position 61. This happened with every clip I encoded using the DXV, at the very end of the clip no matter how long it was. Another test with the H.264 codec came out fine.

** I have uploaded the sample clips encoded with Adobe Media, if anyone can test this too and see if they are having similar issues that would be much appreciated. I fear the issues is not just in the program but also in the codec, since other codecs like H.264 seemed to work no problem. Funny enough the file size of the sample clip was 8.8mb with every program I used to convert to DXV, except with adobe media. That file was only 8.6mb. So obviously something different is happening in the encoding process, that is causing the misplaced frames.

After that happened I tried adobe compressor. Its a great program, but is kidna a memory hog and think it runs clunky. However it did convert all my files no problem. The program seemed to hang and be unresponsive after running for 8 hours overnight to convert 200+ videos. Although it was still spiting out files this morning so I let it hang until it was done.

Last but not leased you can also use quicktime pro to convert several files. Although it does not work as a batch utility it is very easy to make simple edits to files and quickly export clips to different codecs. Very powerful indeed. You can even open several clips and have them all exporting at the same time. You don't need to keep the clips open for the conversion process to finish.

Hope that helps. Good luck with the conversion. Let me know how it goes with Livid Batch Export. I'd be interested to hear what other peoples are doing to batch convert lots of files.

The Livid Batch Export utility is working great! I converted al my footage a while ago... It took some time, but everything worked perfect.

I did read this problem about clips with audio in combination with Livid Batch Export utility but can't confirm that while I'm not using audio at this moment.

just to mention I had exactly the same problem with Adobe Media Encoder. I tried to convert from .avi files (some uncompressed, some divx, some lagartith lossless encoded) into DXV .mov

I had very annoying frame glitches as you described.

Regarfing Livid Batch: I am under WinXP and I could not figure out how to make this utility converts something else than .mov into DXV .mov (but it does this very well).

Good to know that I'm not the only one with this strange issue. I never have experienced a video encoder moving frames to different locations before. hehe.

As for the livid video utility. I have only use it on a mac, and have not tested it with avi files. But it does a good job. Perhaps if you install some plug-ins for quicktime that allow avi playback you might have some better luck. I think the app uses the quicktime engine to do all its work, so if quicktime can't play avi on your pc then neither can the livid batch utility.

Indeed Livid Export for Windows is just a batch capable frontend for the QuickTime (Pro maybe) API, as I figured out. It (the API) is able to load avi file encoded with a few standard codecs, but cannot simply dynamically use all installed codec (this has perhaps something to do with directshow of whatever). I use to archive my clip using a lossless avi coded named Lagarith, that is not part of the standard Windows distribution. However, once installed, any program (except QuickTime) can use it to encode/decode.

Well, in the Windows world, things would be easier if DXV could be used inside .avi container.
