Hey guys,
I'm doing research for a paper I'm writing and i want you to discuss the following questions:
.) How will VJing look like in the future (focused on technology and art)?
.) Do you think that DJing/LiveActing and VJing will come closer together or will both be done by one person?
Cheers and thx for your comments!

Re: Research: Future of Audio-Visual-Jockeying
I can see multiple different directions for VJing (which are affecting the design of the tools btw)
1) VJing as performance - 1 or 2 hour sets, closely integrated with music at the level of musical structure. Either with VJ as member of band, or else with visuals automatically cued by the music. I believe Resolume focuses on the "VJ as member of band" paradigm. VisualJockey, Hippotizer and such seem focused on triggering video based on cues from the performers.
2) VJing as background (visual wallpaper) - long sets, integrated with music at the level of audio signal analysis. Typically generative or abstract visuals, though I've started to see FFT-driven sample-based sets. I get the sense that a lot of Resolume users actually need to do this quite often, hence the requests for more automation (chaos mode), support for generative visuals in Flash, etc.
3) VJing as realtime editing - this is an interesting trend, and one to keep an eye on. VJing software is now powerful enough that it can allow for, in effect, realtime video editing. Instead of the classic edit -> render cycle, you can now perform -> record, much more like music recording.
