i am coming up on a project where i needed a SUPER-mobile vj pc
i flirted with the idea of getting the new alienware m11x with an ssd and giving it a try:

(anything over 12 inches should not be considered a netbook IMO. )
in the end i wasn't ready to take the risk and i placed an order for hi-end vaio z:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/11/sony ... -s-review/
ordered specs:
Intel® Core™ i7-620M processor (2.66GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz
4GB (4GBx1) DDR3-SDRAM-1066 (upgrade to 8 myself to save$$)
quad ssd: 384GB (256GBx1 + 128GBx1) Solid State Drive with RAID 0 Technology
i am $300-$400 over the highest speced 13inch macbookpro, but i get alot more for it. (and sony still does free xp downgrade disc with purchase of win 7 pro)
i am hopeful their new ssd raid tech will work well for vj, but its a gamble.
more money, less risk that it would make the haul over the m11x. in the end, i just need a faster processor than the m11x has right now... hope they toss an i5 or i7 in their this year.
for now, the vaio Z if the fastest 13inch computer on the market. Premium laptop at an understandable price.
the Vaio z is neither a netbook nor and affordable machine, so it is a bit off topic. I will weigh in when i get the machine and run it out for a while.
but part of me wishes i would have taken the plunge and grabbed the m11x instead... it would be sweet if it could pull off an adequate vj machine at 11inches with the gpu and DXV. it would also fit the right price point.(minus the SSD)
SOMEONE needs to grab a m11x and pace it out with DXV...someone....
