What codec? i'm lost!

Post by banicos »

Hi! i've saw lots of topics talking about codecs! I usually VJ at home with a 19" monitor for output, and i'm going to play in a friends house that got a simple projector.
I am using the MPEG Streamclip to convert the files, can anybody give me a final answer? :P

Thanks and sorry for the repost!

Cheers!

if you are using resolume avenue, the Avenue specific codec is the best to use:
get it here:
http://resolume.com/download/

if you are using resolume 2 then your best bet is to buy Picvideo -( http://resolume.com/shop/codec.php ) - and use the quality settings outline in the resolume manual. it really is the best universal codec for VJing, and is well worth the investment.

if your computer is bogged down, drop the output size to 640x480 or 400x300 even 320x240 if you want to work with lots of layers on older hardware.... run a trial on a couple clips before you start converting all your files.

for resolume 3 i converted my vids (mainly qt h264) to dxv. the dxv codec works EXCEPT in AVENUE. the vids look good but in avenue they are all kind of interlaced. i also tryied serveral decoders. such as in qt pro, after effects, adobe media encoder. all with the same result. so whats up?
i tend to other jpeg compressors or to buy PICvideo M-JPEG Codec v4 as you do not recommend h264 in avenue.

Hey Mathias

DXV encoded clips *should* look the same in all players.

Could you send us the original and converted clips at support[at]resolume[dot]com, and maybe a screenshot of how they look in Avenue? Then we can take a look at what might be going wrong.
