Buttons for Looping (LoopIn/LoopOut/Exit)

Post by VJVertex »

Hi,

maybe its possible to create some buttons for Loop In/Out/Exit.
I like the cue buttons, but sometimes i miss the function to set loop in and loopt out (without using the mouse to set the video start/end point at the timeline).
I´m thinking about function like DJCD-Players use it, would be great.

Image

another small wish, the option to show time(code), maybe with the same features from cd-players (actual time, rest time. If u put the loopfunction in it, maybe a second time(code) for the loop.

thx.
greets from germany

Hey Vertex

By default, the I and O keys will snap the in and out points of the current layer to the playhead. You can assign other keys if you want though.

Resetting the loop and timecode are both in the works for a future update.

Same idea, except you map the in and out point while in midi map mode ;) For more info on mapping, the midi part of the manual is probably the best place to look.

Sort of related here is that the looping points aren`t numerical in any form, time or divisions of 100 say - it makes it really difficult to make really precise loops. I`ve been trying to get long graphics to scroll across and be on a continuos loop - say a forest for instance but hard to do it precisely just with the loop sliders as they are -

so i take a look and find in/out and it works... but maybe it´s possible to build a reset button => "kill" the loop and the In/Out-marker is set to start and end of the video or resolume ignore the In/Out and plays normal (without borders) and if u wanna use the loop again u can reload it?!

Numerical input for the in and out points is on the to-do list. Meanwhile you could use three-part OSC messages to set the in and out points more accurately.

Yes, it's possible, and as mentioned in answer to your first post, on the to-do list already.

+1 for the Kill switch

A "problem" with the current in/out points happens when working in bpm sync: you loose your beats-grid! That does not happen with bpm sync in bpm-mode, only in beats-mode. Unfortunately the bpm-mode is only available when there is an audio track present. (By the way: Is that a bug or a feature? Would love to have bpm-mode always available!)

Something else that would be nice to have is: the looped part of the timeline being moveable. Like that scroll thumb on a scrollbar. And to have this ability even midi assignable.
Thus you could slowly shift your loop over the whole clip which can add some nice psychotic qualities to your live set! (You can watch this video to see what I'm talking about: http://www.vimeo.com/13687531)

Best,

Resolume will continue to sync the new length of the clip between the in and out points to the amount of beats that's specified. So you don't lose the grid, it just gets adjusted to the new length.
(By the way: Is that a bug or a feature? Would love to have bpm-mode always available!)
BPM-mode analyzes the music track, and auto-calculates the BPM for it. So it's a feature that's only available with audio present, because otherwise it wouldn't have anything to calculate ;-)

Good idea, I'll make a feature request.

Hey Joris,
thanks for the answer.

Okay, okay, that's what i meant. Just wanted to formulate more dramatic ;)
Assuming everything is beatmatched, you will loose the sync to the beats of music as soon as you touch the in/out points. And that is my problem. (Not in bpm-mode, which works fine - but only if audio is present...)

Okay, than skip the automatic analyzation, but let me type in a bpm value! (Practically I always use 120bpm .. maybe one could set the default bpm for non-audio clips somewhere in the preferences?!)
