Built a $600 VJ computer this week, used it for the first time tonight. The dedicated video smoked weaker laptop graphics and everything looked really smooth. Amazing to have control over very fine detail using a MIDI controller. Also quite surprised by how little it costs to build a robust system (when you're not buying overpriced MacBooks).
Had some tearing, but I fixed it before the show by reverting to an Aero theme in Win 7.
As a DJ of 12 years, Resolume makes the most sense to me. You can continue mixing like a DJ and match the performer's tricks.
