Randomized Videos & Beatmonitoring

Post by DarkMio »

First of all: I only try atm Resolume as demo with this annoying sound and the resolume-brand on my screen.
And: I jam atm. with a friend for VJing with Resolume.

I performed some shows with ARKAOS VJ - but whey, it is mostly a piece of crap when you tried Resolume.

So, I don't do any music-stuff.
I figured out how I get DVX (DXV? Whatever) Videos from Vegas Pro. (I work at my job with such software...).
But what I didn't found: How and when works the randomized videoplay?
Some samples from the net works without any problem. Just pressing the litte 'R' and you have a nice lagging animation. I love it. But... With my own produced videos it won't work.
I only play forward, backward and can stop. What I do wrong?

Second: Can't resolume handle any input-signals? I grab mostly the audio-signal from the DJ Tables, so I can measure the BPM directly and in a fine quality. ATM I do that with 'Beat Monitor 2.0' from 2002. This isn't a handy solution, but it works and crashes sometimes.
I tried it at home with male-male-cables (output -> line-in) that Resolume 3 measures the BPMs for its own - but it wont? Is there any solution in the program? Maybe you can implant this?

And there is a litte third thing:
Can't Resolume3 manipulate Flash-Inputs?
I work'd with a lot of text-animations in Arkaos - with simple flash-input and flash animations.
Resolume can play the flashs but only with my 'Standardtext'-text. In Arkaos you said only 'Input: Text and names as example' and it was fine.
Don't understand me wrong, I love Resolume atm. for the most features, DVX (DXV?) is a really really freaking fucking powerful format... but there are this three things I'm missing / couldn't find any explaination...
And it is really unhandy if I have to compile all my flash again and again for every single show... :(

Best regards,

Mio

Hey DarkMio

Good to hear you like Resolume so much! Now for your questions:
DarkMio wrote:But what I didn't found: How and when works the randomized videoplay? I only play forward, backward and can stop. What I do wrong?
This is probably caused by your clips having an audio track. It could be an empty track, but the moment Resolume detects any audio track, it removes the random option (because random on audio would sound horrible). You can get the option back by deleting the audio from the clip in Resolume (use the X in the audio tab of the Clip Properties) or simply tell Vegas not to include an audio track.

Resolume can handle audio FFT just fine, but it doesn't do automatic beat detection. We find that it gives unreliable results on anything but the simplest 4/4 kick drum patterns. Aside from this, I personally feel that tapping the BPM yourself keeps you on your toes, and keeps your shows from turning into automated MilkDrop screensavers.

Resolume can do this too, except we implemented it slightly differently. You can check the Flash chapter of the manual to see how you can prepare your Flash files for dynamic text inputs.

I hope that answers your questions!

Thank you for you help...
Argh, yes, Vegas Pro build an audiotrack in its clips - thanks for that help.

BPM: Okay... Everything works otherwise, but everything built-in would be a lil better. ... :)

Flash: RTFM! ;) Thanks...

Now a little feedback:
Resolume Avenue 3 fits in that, what I want to have for Live VJing.
That effects can work in a BPM-Timeline is one of the best things - here in Berlin you see often some visual, but the most are really really asynchron. ...
Arkaos wasn't handy here -you have to trigger a lot, that your clips fit to the music.

With Resolume ... all my FreeFrames can triggered with BPM! I LOVE IT!
My Venyl-DJ an me have next week a meeting with two bosses of a club here - We will show them what we can do with Resolume and LiveDJ. So - if they love it like we do it - I will purchase it in the next weeks! :D

Best regards,
Mio
