loop points - manual / midi control difference

Post by VJair »

when i move the loop in out points they work differently depending on wether i use midi or not.

when i use midi, the loop in point wont go past the playhead ( which is good when trying to work out where a clip should start )

when i move the loop in point manualy ( with the mouse ) it can go past the playhead and moves it ( which is bad when trying to work out where a clip should start )

it would be best if they both worked the same way ( the loop point not going past the playhead would be my preference )

Ah yes, this is inconsistent behaviour. Thanks for the find, this shouldn't be the case. I've made a ticket for it. However, since it doesn't cause instability, and you have access to the functionality you require, it's pretty low priority for the time being.

yeah it doesnt cause instability as such, it just makes the workflow hard and long ( that sounds dodgy...lol ) - if you spend a while working out where the clip should start using the playhead and then manualy move the loop start point there, you can actualy loose the point you found with the playhead as it gets moved by the loop point.

doing it via midi means that each time you want to adjust it you have to go into mapping mode, assign the controller, go out of mapping mode, move the playhead, go back into mapping mode, unassign the controller and go back out of mapping mode ( we found that leaving the controller assigned can lead to accidentaly altering the start point ) all of which is a pretty long workaround, especialy when dealing with large amounts of clips

I'd recommend mapping the in point in Application Map mode, so you have only one controller which can only affect the currently active clip. You'd only need to map once and you can't accidentally change the in points of clips already set correctly. Only the currently active clip can be changed, which you can check right away if you happened to touch the controller by mistake.
