intel graphic and nvidia gt 540m

Post by alibaba »

took a look at a new laptop today, since i need a stronger machine for running resolume with 720p footage. the laptop is equipped with a i7-2630qm processor, 4 gb ram, nvidia gt 540m with 2 gb, ddr3. operating system is windows 7, 64 bit. i guess this should be fine to handle resolume 3.

what i got a bit confused about is this:
basically all graphic work on this machine seems to be done by the intel graphic chip. all display settings, selection of displays (one or two) are done by the onboard graphic chip. checked under hardware, where both - the intel graphic chip as well as the gt 540m - are listed. now i am asking myself, how i can manage, that resolume will work on the nvidia graphics card, using the 2gb gpu instead of the intel onboard graphic chip ....

is there any why to select on of the cards for a certain program?

anyone out there with any experience with the intel / nvidia combination?

any help will be highly appreciated.

many thanks in advance.

i think you have to look at your nvidia control panel
the function for gpu switching is called "optimus" if i think.
maybe you can also configure a profile for resolume ;)

if it's not working may you have to try another driver release.
give google a try ;)

Thanks HerrNieDa for your reply. I have checked the Nvidia control panel All I can set there is the options for 3D and Nvidia Physics. Will say, I can select if i want the Nvidia card to do all these operations or if I want the Intel HD graphic chip to do it. Don't know, if this will be enough, since I simply want all work of Resolume to be executed on the Nvidia ...

Optimus is not availabe in the control panel ;-(
