ATI Catalyst 13.1 Video Engine Cannot Start

Post by sleepytom »

Yet again broken ATI driver.. This time worse than the blinky output we have a total failure with resolume throwing a "Video Engine Cannot Start" error message on startup.

I'm going to buy a Nvidia Card when i have a spare £300 as it seems that ATI cannot release drivers which work with resolume.

It would be good if we could get to the bottom of these issues and work out why they happen and if there is anything that could be done from resolume's end to fix / avoid these things.

cheers

Good to know. Its too and because the release notes look promising with 13. Seems like there starting to get more out of the 7000 series

We would love to be able to look deeper into this. As it stands though, we have had two different ATI 7000 series cards in our machines, and neither of them exhibited the problems some people experienced.

Please note that this is not saying that your problems are your own fault, or that we don't take it seriously. We bought those two cards specifically to try to recreate the issue.

The heart of the problem is that we cannot go around changing things if we have no way of seeing if those changes have any impact.

Comparing it to creating content, it would be like placing and deleting keyframes without previewing the animation, and then hoping that somehow the final render turns out better.

Same problem here with an AMD HD 6700M. This starts to be really annoying. I don't know whos fault it is but it makes working with Resolume really unreliable. Tomorrow will be the third performance where I have to somehow find an other computer to run my videos on.

Just don't update your ATI drivers until you know it's solid...

Guess you are right... after "downgrading" to amd catalyst pro 12 the program starts as normal. Thanks for the "tip"!

Well it actually didn't solve the problem but shifted it back to an older ishue: the flickering. So now thats back on. Guess I will have to keep trying drivers until one works (probably from 2009 or so).

Any news on this please.
Are ANY attempts being made to fix this? This is a total show stopper, Resolume clearly is the culprit as ALL my other apps work on whatever version of the ATI drivers i'm running.

Please UPDATE us with the current state of this bug, and ideally a realistic timeframe to expect a fix in.

IMHO resolume 3/4 has never worked properly with ATI cards. If this is "just the way it is" then please clearly and explicitly state the need for an NVIDIA card in the system requirements.

Please don't make excuses such as "some ATI cards work fine" - this is utterly meaningless as *most* ATI cards DO NOT WORK unless they are running very old drivers, and even then there are versions which don't fully work.

I'm going to have to get an Nvidia GPU if i want to carry on with Resolume. This is very annoying having spent nearly £500 on my current ATI card.
