so i would like to have three displays total, one control and two projectors (either merged or seperate images)
my graphics card is a HD7770, It has one dual link DVI, one HDMI, and one mini DP output.
i would like to have the two projectors at 1024x768 or 1280x720 as those are the native settings of what I have available.
how would you set this up? what components would you use? I was thinking about using the DVI for control, and somehow using the mini display port for the other two, dual head2go? I have an analog one, but most DP>VGA adaptors wont allow me to send a resolution high enough to get a 2048x768 or 2560x720. Should I get a dual head DP edition and convert it over to analog with DP adaptors on the tail end? I generaly use analog cabling , VGA/5/6wire I dont have any DVI repeaters or CAT 5 transmiters....
Thanks!
how would you set this up?
Re: how would you set this up?
I might be misunderstanding your question, but it seems like a basic setup.
Use the HDMI for control - HDMI to DVI adapter if your control monitor doesn't have HDMI in.
Screen 1 DP to VGA then VGA to 5 wire whip.
Screen 2 DVI (is most likely DVI-I) DVI to VGA adapter, VGA to 5 wire whip.

Re: how would you set this up?
I just went ahead and got some extron dvi over cat5 tx/rx units, they were 100 bucks each. The issue i was having came down to the card i believe, it does not like me converting to analog even with active adaptors, probably for copyright protection? so i decided to go all digital, im using a triple head and two 201 tx. works great. I didnt want to spend the extra doe for an edid emultor edition i hope that wasnt a mistake, but so far i havent needed it.

Re: how would you set this up?
Good luck with the Extron DVI gear. I've had endless issue's with Cat5. The older Dual cat5 extron gear is total garbage and I refuse the run a show with them. I heard good things about the new versions of the extron single cat5 systems, but when it was demo'd to me it had all kinds of red lines running thru pure black sections of content. Make sure you have the right cat5 skewed vs un-skewed. In my opinion these cat5 boxes are designed for permeant installations. HDSDi is the best way to send digital signal a long distance in a Live Environment. Fibre is another solution but can be costly. And if your less then 100' then it is ok to run VGA. Thats right good old school VGA. Just do your auto PC on a V-burst pattern and you should be ok
You don't have copy protection error over an analog output. There is zero copy protection on a VGA output. HDCP is a digital only issue. Typically its only enabled at 1080p.
Your content should be in DVX playing thru Resolume, so no copy protection there either.
All Display Port to VGA are active. DiplayPort is a digital only format. All DisplayPort to VGA have a 400 mhtz ramdac convertor. This converts the Digital Output to Analogue. The Active term only refers to the fact that the adapter needs power. Which can be supplied by either the DisplayPort output, USB, or external. Don't let the guys at your local computer store tell you any different. Displayport to DVI active is only required when using DualLink resolutions. Anything over 1920x1200.
Your problem with your DVI output may be that it is DVI-D, not DVI-I. In the DVI output connector is there 4 pins beside the blade? These are the pins that are used for VGA.
Personally I like the TripleHead2Go, I've heard of a lot of problems with them, but I've never experienced this. I think using them allows to solve vSync tearing that can occur. I'd be really surprised to hear that the TripleHead2Go are HDCP compliant. One of HDCP limitations (limitations may be the wrong word) is to stop you being able to scale or adjust the signal in anyway. If the source or the output doesn't match then HDCP shuts down signal. The emulator basically tells the source " ok ok these are the droids you are looking". If your placing the edid emulator in between the graphics card and your triplehead2go then your only asking for problems. Its not doing anything useful there . If your putting in between a BluRay player and a Blackmagic input then your using correctly.
Hope some of this was helpful. There is a ton of misinformation out there.

Re: how would you set this up?
I was under the impression that extrons skew free cat5 was for sending analog/video not digital data? I shouldn't need that for sending DVI. I think e skew free is for long distances, like over 500 ft and red or green or blue would show up late causing distortion. But digital is just data packets so it should be fine I hope.
Re: how would you set this up?
For me skewed issue is generally cause by the AV company that I'm freelancing for that day often send out a pre made projector snakes that may be skew free cable. Just need to make sure you have the right type for your setup. Extron wants you use Shielded Cat5 which can be tricky to locate.
The 201 is a unit that I won't use.

The newer 230 models were the ones demo'd but they seemed problematic to me so far.

After switching to Shielded Cat5 the signal is stabler, but I've still not seen the extron DVI gear rock solid above 1024x768 in a touring environment.

what a bummer, i wonder if they are slipping as a company
, i have used lots of their products in the past with great success.
