Resolume controlled by VDMX?

Post by mrhansnable »

can anyone explain how I can used VDMX to control which clips are played in Resolume and for how long each clip will loop. This is because I can't VJ all night, but I need it to keep being dynamic.

thanks!

Use OSC and some quartz patches to randomize clips and how long they stay. Kinda a strange request. Can you go into more details?

I'm a bit new to this but trying really hard to get it working. To be honest it's kinda stressful cuz I can't seem to get it right.

I'm using resolume on a mac, connected to a pc via ethernet. We're controlling the BPM via ethernet (still trying to work out how the hell to use the ethernet connection to do FFT analysis of the sound to sync with the visuals). ANYWAYS, I have tons of short clips that are on loops and need to be auto-switched at 5 minute intervals cuz I can't be VJing while also DJing. Someone told me VDMX can do it. I have no idea what a quartz patch is. Think you could give me a bit of an explanation here on this? I would be eternally grateful.

thanks so much for taking the time to help out, people on this forum have been extremely helpful.

I answered this question in another thread, you can't easily use a cat5 to send sound from traktor to resolume. Resolume's FFT needs a soundcard based source.

VDMX and quartz are outside of your education level for moment. Here is a user friendly solution.
Use autopilot to move to the next clip after it is done. To make one clip last longer just copy and duplicate the clip to the column on the right of the same layer. Continue that process until you reach 5 minutes worth of clips.

For questions on using autopilot see below. I would also suggest partnering with a VJ as that is really the best way to go about such things.

thanks so much for your help drazkers.

Our event is going to be 10 hours or so, it will be insane to fill that much time with 1-4 second clips. I think I've given up for now on having the perfect sync with FFT, but it would be amazing if I could at least get the clip lengths right.

could you maybe point me in the direction of which quartz patch I could use?

thanks again

You'd have to make it yourself. Why don't you use after effects or premier to make your loops the correct size?

k you're right, I'll skip the VDMX idea and lengthen the clips to 30s or so then put in many copies of them. I guess one thing that was stopping me is someone gave me advice to just use a short clip cuz it's easier to sync to the BPM. any advice to get the clips sync'd up better?

thanks again for your help. I swear I'm not an idiot, just a little ignorant and over-worked night after night trying to get this to work. I really appreciate your help.
