Looking for a reliable way to take lots of screenshots

Post by DayVeeJay »

I'm working on a project where the user is able to control the content on up to three screens with an iPad and then press print. The iPad is controlling everything with OSC. Knowing that the quickest way to make resolume crash is by loading a comp with PNG's, I started investigating 3rd party screenshot apps. Unfortunately none of them can see the output screens from Resolume. Instead I see the desktop background.

As of now, my solution is make my comp 1920x3240 and adjust my layer's Y positions, send keystrokes to resolume for a snapshot, activate the clip containing the snapshot, send ctrl+x keystroke and then process the image file. I see the potential for things going wrong (ie the user activates another clip before ctrl+x is sent). Simply making the comp larger is resulting in framerates dropping down to 35-40fps when idle.

so, you don't want to keep the screenshots in the composition?

there is a freeze effect, which I have used with a layer router a while ago to freeze a video playing.
edit:
I checked it in comp,
it is just a layer router in layer 2 set input from layer2, when acivating it freezes the video playing in layer 2
and depending on fade time it blurs the source

The end product will be printed so I need a screenshot that's saved to a file. For stability I would prefer it not be in the composition but if it's just one it shouldnt be a big deal. I will be adding features to disable the print button for X number of seconds after the print button is pressed or if 5+ documents are in the print queue.

yeah, I read your post again.

FRAPS has worked for me making movies from the output screen.
I tried its screenshot function, arena running in fullscreen on main display, it works.(I don't have an external monitor right now.)
