Today Apple announced a new version of the Retina MacBook Pro 15 that unfortunately still has 2GB discrete graphics. The card however is now a AMD Radeon R9 M370X with GDDR5. It's supposedly faster... anyone have the scoop on this?
Edit 1: "Support for up to 5120 by 2160 resolution at 60Hz on a single external display (model with AMD Radeon R9 M370X only)"
Edit 2: Still using Haswell chips, so there will most likely be another release late this year (or early 2016) with Skylake. Today's refresh is a solid upgrade for 2012 Retina or older.

Re: 2015 MacBook Pro 15"
I was waiting for the resolume devs to comment on the new AMD card.
I remember reading somewhere in the forums that resolume plays better with Nvidia.
Any idea if it will work better than the retina MBP with the Nvida 750M?

That's in PC land. On PCs, we find Nvidia is generally more reliable than AMD, especially when using more than one card.I remember reading somewhere in the forums that resolume plays better with Nvidia.
In Mac land, there is no big difference. Mac has had AMD cards for years ( the new 2013 Mac Pro even has two) , and they perform as well as you can expect.
So yeah, although we haven't tried it ourselves, I would expect the newer R9 M370X to out perform the older GTX750M.
Re: 2015 MacBook Pro 15"
This shows some good info regarding the new 2015 15" with the R9. I am in the market myself for a new machine but I am not a fan of my current AMD in my MBP. They run too hot. If anything, maybe the new 5k iMac with the upgraded gpu.

Just did a quick test.
Performance of Resolume seams to be similar as with previous Retina, but FPS and speed disks are insane!

I actually have the new MBP 15 with the AMD R9 370, so far runs good, even when i was in the desert and the temp was 110 degrees. Let me know if you want to run some test or anything else on it.
I myself love Nvidia, for Mac it seems to make no difference.
Waiting for MSI or gigabyte to update their gaming laptops to PCI e, since they are already using gtx970 and gtx980.

Could you run the benchmarks? 1080p and 4khive8 wrote:I actually have the new MBP 15 with the AMD R9 370, so far runs good, even when i was in the desert and the temp was 110 degrees. Let me know if you want to run some test or anything else on it.
We are looking into buying a new laptop, and that would be great help.
