External GPU

Post by anthonydiehl »

Any one tested this product with Resolume on a mac? The external graphics card thing looks very promising for pushing a lot of pixels and getting better overall performance form a laptop rig.

Yes, if the mac book doesn't thermal throttle because they have terrible cooling.

Razer core any day before I'd pull the trigger on a mac solution.

Sorry, are you saying you have tried an external GPU solution? Not sure how thermal throttling factors in here... If anything, an external GPU would help with heat since the system GPUs would be (in theory) not used.

It's not about the GPU heating the system directly and I do not own one. But the cpu doesn't just idle when you decide to add a external video card or any discreet video card to a machine. The cpu is very much part of the effort to keep the video card fed and instruct it. So if you get a weak mobile cpu hence (m) on the cpu model that comes with a passive chassis notebook it is almost guaranteed to throttle and have some effect on external gpu's efforts. But best of luck.
