Hi Oaktown,

Have you already resolved this issue? i'm working on a Videoinstallation as well and having similar problems with stuttering playback.
The FPS shows 59 to 60, i play two clips of 1024 x 768 DXV 25 FPS and audio on both clips.

AMD Radeon HD6950 2gb Sapphire
Windows 7 Arena 4

If you found something please let me know!

Regards, Nils

i took my comp and footage to another computer. initially running on a windows 10 PC (with an 8Gb quadro card) and moved it to a macbook pro. there was no lag on the MBP with the same comp + footage. the only difference i had was that the pc was connected through minidisplay -> DVI to the monitor an the MBP with HDMI -> HDMI to the same monitor.... i suspect it has to do with that... but not sure.

which osx version are you using?
on my 2012 mbp, I had an issue like yours, where the video card would just freeze for a half second or so like every 30 seconds even with google chrome, but only after upgrading to Yosemite.
On mavericks and el capitan everything is smooth until I play 8-10 HD layers.

Is your content 25fps and your screen set to 60?

What happens when you change your outputs to 50hz?

I have also just noticed this lag on my Samsung EVO 850 2TB - super strange.. I'll switch to another SSD asap!

i had a simular issue. check your memory usage in the task manager. i found every time framerate dropped memory would increase. would continue until memory warning appeared. disabling OSC data has appeared to solve the issue.

This reminds me of a tour i had, back at the start of the year! The mention of the 850 jogged my memory.

I had a raid 0 with the samsung 850 pro as well. We would get random lagging, i switched our content to our OS raid 1 and finished the tour.

I returned the drives, was given new ones and everything was fine. I believe there is a batch of 850's out there that randomly lag out. I used some benchmarking tools and you'd be at 750MBs and suddenly it would drop to like 25.

Everyone should do a disk test if they notice random FPS drops.
