Timecode Offset not working

Post by ay1234 »

Hello,

So I am trying to get SMPTE timecode working in Arena 5.1.2 and everything works fine, the current timecode read in is correct and there are no drop frames etc. But when I set the offset at say 04:00:00.00 for a clip and the timecode reaches that value the clip starts playing in the middle of the timeline.

The screenshot below captures the problem.

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks so much.

are you using dropFrame TC?
I can replicate this with frame rate set to 29.97.
the calculation of the dropframe position seems to cause this.

edit: there also seems to be some weirdness going on switching fps in preferences from and to DF format, then adjusting the clip offset with the +- buttons, causes the offset to jump a lot of frames.

also with SMPTE FPS set to 29.97 setting an offset at 23:xx:xx.xx is impossible:

edit:
and btw, clip playback position's offset at 22:00:00.00 is exactly the number of frames (2376f) that are dropped from 00:00:00.00 till 22:00:00.00

Thanks for the reply.

I am using a frame rate of 29.97. That is what I am getting from the band on stage and am not able to change it unfortunately.

I am able to create weird corrections for this by pausing at the start of an hour and correcting offset that way but that seems strange. Any ideas besides this strange correction?

Thanks again.

Best,
Asher

Yikes!

Looks like something is going very wrong with offset calculation when using dropframe timecode. We'll look into this as soon as we can. For the time being, I think you may have to switch to 30 fps or correct the math yourself, because I can't make any promises we can bring out a fix on very short notice. Sorry :(
