Live Feed

Post by morgan.moroney »

Hi,

I am attempting to create a live feed to be projected from Resolume Avenue 4. The PC I am working with is not able to access the internet. Can anyone provide advice as to how I can get the feed from a camera with an HDMI output into a PC then into Resolume to project? I should note that the camera is to be onstage while the PC is 20 metres away in the bio box. A composite patch point is all I have to run the signal, if I got an HDMI to composite converter then how would I get that signal into the PC?

Any advice would be much appreciated :) Thank you

The cheapest solution would be to get an EasyCap dongle, which captures composite,or s-video using USB2.
It will show up as input in the sources.

The good solution would be :
Blackmagicdesings has some mini/micro converters, hdmi to sdi would work for you as sdi uses the same cable as composite video, and you can get an sdi capture device from them which are natively supported by resolume. This way you can capture in original broadcast quality.

Control Your show with ”Enter” - multiple Resolume servers at once - SMPTE/MTC column launch

Thanks very much, I'll do some research into those options :)

As a head's up, using an analog signal will be introduce latency and be disappointing in quality! The best results will be achieved using digital signal so my recommendation would be to use the following setup:
  • - Blackmagic Design Micro Converter HDMI to SDI at the camera ~ $85
    - 20M of 3G-SDI cable ~$100
    - Blackmagic Design Decklink Mini Recorder PCIe card on your PC ~ $145
As a cheaper alternative, you could risk it and use a 20M HDMI cable with an amp (passive or active) and only buy the Blackmagic Design Decklink Mini Recorder.
