Dragging Hue from Colorize effect to Dashboard issue

Post by docoptic »

For the Colorize effect, when setting the Hue value to anything other than the default (0) and assigning it to a Dashboard control, the Dashboard control does not save the Hue value and instead resets to the default color. Same thing happens with Saturation.

Could you describe the steps you take one by one, how you assign the hue to dashboard?
Clip/layer/composition?
Both parameters keep their value for me when I drop them onto a dashboard dial that's not assigned yet, and also when I use the parameter's menu to assign it.

I think I found a better way to replicate the issue I'm having with saving default values.

1. Drag Gradient Source to empty clip slot
2. Drag Meta Shape effect onto the Gradient clip
3. Drag Resolution parameter to Dashboard Link 1 knob (default value should be 18)
4. Change Resolution parameter to about 60
5. Drag Resolution parameter (now 60) back to Dashboard Link 1 knob
6. Right-click on Dashboard Link 1 knob
7. Default value reverts to 18 and not 60

So basically what is happening is that after you drag a parameter to a Dashboard knob and then try and change the default value of that parameter to something else, you're not able to. In R4/5 this worked differently. You could change a Dashboard knob's default (right-click value) by dragging a new parameter value over the old one.

There is somewhat of a workaround to this but it's not very intuitive. You could drag the new parameter to a different Dashboard knob and then the default value is saved. You'll then have to drag it back to the old knob.

Ok thanks, based on your step I see the difference.
However I didn't find "dashboard defaults" function documented anywhere as a feature.
We have a ticket regarding the dashboard defaults behaviors, but it probably won't be addressed in the final release..

Cool, glad it's being addressed, even if it's not in the Final. Such an important part of my workflow :)
