SSHD hybrid hard disk freezing resolume

Post by Captainflo22 »

Hello,
i got on my setup one ssd 512Gb For OS and hot things and a SSHD (Seagate Firecuda) 2Tb for storage

I put all my Video Collection on the Hybrid because it take a huge disk space
The bad thing, the disk go sleeping since it can, they said, too much, and it result by a freeze of resolume by 4 second until the disk wake up and read.
Do you know a way to let it awake always during a performance? i think to a software who read automatically the content of the disk just enough to keep it on? no?

Are you on a Mac or PC ? If you are on pc you can probably set the Turn Off feature for said hard drive to 0 in the power option in windows. I don't know how to do that in Mac OS though.

My first thought too would be to check the OS power saving settings and turn off anything you can including the disk sleep.

How much SSD cache does a drive like this have?
I assume it only stores frequently accessed data.
When you play your clips they will be probably much larger than the cache, so your hybrid drive will probably behave as a regular HDD in terms of read speeds.

Hybrids really suck for content. Clips you use alot will go quick but suddenly old clips will make your system chug since its essentially a 7200RPM drive.
