Magewell lost signal after using some effects

Post by Krikk »

Hello!

This problem occured half a year ago, so I won't remember some things exactly, but seems like we will work with the same guy (a DJ who's using his own visuals and computer) and equipment next week...

So. We did get the signal from some kind of Macbook Pro, it had I 2 outputs I guess. It was controlled/triggered with ableton, maybe he used a midi controller only for resolume.

He sent a simple FHD signal, into and HDMI-SDI converter, across about 70m SDI cable, converted back, then via a Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus into our Win 10 PC server. We NEVER had any problems with the magewell, only this time.

And the wierd thing. Everything was fine, until he turned on (or turned some parameters close to max) some effect, for example edge detection. When the sent picture turned into truly just some stripes and lines, as I remember, in the magewell's "monitoring" software it said that the signal's color format changed from RGB to one of the YUVs only for a moment, than it said unsupported format. After he turned the parameters back, the signal came back again. It happened with some other effect also, can't remember which ones...

We tried it with 3 different pairs of converters, BMD, AJA, I guess Roland also, same thing.

Have u ever met something like this? Do u have any ideas what could it be?

Thx a lot

Krisz

There's a good chance that there was an HDMI splitter before the SDI converter.
