Source presets should get a unique thumbnail, when you place them.

Effects take input from layers playing below, and apply the effect to that. These have default thumbnails currently.

so am I doing something wrong to not have the thumbnail (or the name) change?

Effects need an input so they produce output, these don't get unique thumbnails on load.
You can make one quickly by selectign the clips and hitting Control(command) + Shift + T

Generator Sources produce the output themselves, so Resolume can create the thumbnails for them automatically.

So in the future, would it be possible to drag a generators Preset name onto the comp and have the clip in the comp reflect the Preset name rather than the Generators name?

And the Solid colors Presets not showing up as the right color, sounds like an internal thing is wrong there, right? Other generator Presets show up with the correct thumbnail when brought into the comp.
