What I want to do here is just make a log of what im trying in order to learn to be a VJ. I think it could help ppl like me in the future who are trying to learn. I just want to post anything about it that im into and trying. If its not how this board is suppose to work then im sorry just tell me ill take it down.
I'v been trying to put in one hour a day after work minimum on VJ related computer work. Research counts, talking about it online counts, creating new loops count but really being on Resolume is the most important thing and counts the most.
Just gotta throw it all at the wall and see what sticks. I also have a playlist of videos Iv been making about VJing too on youtube so follow me!

Re: How I'm learning to VJ
First lesson I learned was that I gotta do what inspires me about VJing. I had to start making the loops I wanted to see and playing to the music I want to VJ too
second thing I learned was to make my loops small not long
I'm still unsure about how to get things on beat

It was a hour away and I had a pranged ankle too. but I used the time to practice a shit load and get even more ready for next time.....
While I have you here a few more questions-
1: do you have any more tips about effects to match the beat (like for loops I dont intend to be on beat but instead have effects on beat)? Other than fish eye? that look good to dnb, half step and dub, future bass?
2 did you see this article? https://zerotovj.com/should-you-use-aud ... e-visuals/ I keep thinking about how they are suggesting to use BPM sync instead of external FFT, and im doing that. but then I'll watch a youtube video and people seem to be syncing the music to visualizers all the time...How are people syncing music to visualizers on youtube but this program we are using, which is basically all about syncing video to music, cant do it?

Re: How I'm learning to VJ
my revaluation recently was that the effects and anything coming from resolume is generally way easier to keep on beat- and look better. Like if i try to loop a video to be on beat it generally needs to be tended every so often to re tap or re sync it. not all clips- and some I can quickly adjust the start or end time- or use the nudge button (tho its still challenging to me). But if I put a effect to bump to the tempo it seems to line up and stay in sync like a glove
and also I use to think that things like "Envelops" were lame. Like it just seemed like a way ppl quickly and cheaply make something loop cooler but has no substance (in AF before) but when I use them in resolume it works wonders. Like if I set up a fish eye over a clip and turn its "fish eye" setting to BPM sync and tap the temp right it looks ok, but if I put the envelops on (and im learning to find which envelop fits to which song) it can sort of soften where the "hit" is in the effect and thus it seems that our brains fill it in and it seems like a hit to the music more on time.
I'v learned a lot by going for something I want to see made and seeing how it works. Watching videos or following instructions is good but going directly towards making what I want to see has helped me the most. I have also wasted more time that way. Things seem to not work the way I thought they might but I see a better way to do it and I become re inspired.

Re: How I'm learning to VJ
was just reading someone else talking about VJing and they said this:
"IMO, every set has an underlying rhythm (fractional to the tempo, aka, a slower BPM). It's the "sway" of a set"
not all clips have to be on time right? I want to be a VJ that can jam to what ever (edm) is playing and get it to look good- but that dosen't necessarily mean every loop has to be on beat right? because some things hit in the "sway"??

Re: How I'm learning to VJ
Effects :
Mirror with in/out sync to bpm
Blur
triangular
metashape
videowall
twitch (chaos mode / piano toogle // for drops)
RGB delay
goo
edge detect (bpm sync)
I think you need to just test all effects and play around with the different adjustments, when you see something looking good (either the change of a value, or something else)
then animate this parameter (either bpm sync or audio fft)
also there is the "envelope" to make some transitions smooth or more like a cut.
Play around, test around there are unlimited possibilitys becouse allmost everything can be animated
Often its working fine (and is quikc) to animate the opacity and have a setting you like.

Re: How I'm learning to VJ
heres my new 3 song set
I realized I could have had it better at points but I think I could be a lot better if I had a controller, because I can only do one thing at a time
