How to trigger columns by time

Post by brodie »

What I want to do is trigger Column 1 to play for 37.1s then column 2 for 7.7s then column 3, and so on. What are my options for that?

This is just for a bedroom vj type project that I'm syncing to a specific song that will be played through Spotify.

Quickest way I could think of would be to make a dummy layer at the bottom, disable column trigger on that layer and put Blank sources in it and set the sources to auto-play. Adjust the duration of the sources to your liking. Then make a custom OSC output message for those sources and make that OSC message be the column their are in. Then you will need a OSC loopback adapter like Chataigne or Touch Designer to get those OSC messages back into Resolume. So now when that blank source is finished playing, it will move on to the next blank source and that source will trigger the column it's in.

I'd just make my clips this long and use layer auto pilot.
You can cut the clips right in Resolume using the transport controls, in and out points.

Thanks for the tips. I started out by trying to time out columns of clips to end at the exact same time and then autopilot to the next column. That was working ok but was pretty tedious as a workflow, required a lot of fiddling to sync up loops, effects, etc, and it wasn't very flexible (changing the duration of a column was quite a hassle).

I did download TouchDesigner but it was too daunting to learn how to do what I wanted.

I ended up finding the software below that seems to be doing what I need. It works with TouchDesigner but he has a youtube video explaining how to use it that is working well for me. I just set up the buttons to trigger a Resolume column via OSC.

Just wanted to report back in case anyone else comes along with a similar question down the road.
