exported files from Alley DXV3

Post by timeshark »

Hi,
New to Avenue/Alley...
I'm preparing movie files in DXV on Mac m2, Ventura. Alley & Avenue 7.15

I have an Mkv file. I convert to mp4 with Handbrake, then using Alley I convert to DXV.
Or I try with existing .mov files directly into Alley.
The resulting converted files work in Avenue, but when I open with QuickTime there is only audio and when I try with VLC it crashes the application.
Since I am trying to save storage space I would like to only have 1 version of the file, in DXV. Why do these files not work in other applications if I have the codec installed?

Also I also have some larger files (10-20 gb) and when I try to convert with alley they create a 186kb file that doesn't work, obviously. Is there a file size limit for conversion? The targeted HD for export has more than enough free space, so that is not an issue. What is going on?

Cheers!

We don't provide codec for VLC, and the Quicktime plugin doesn't work on 64 bit systems, so both apps try to decode DXV with their own methods it seems. We can't do much about that.

186 kB file sounds like the conversion hasn't finished. You should see the file size increase as it is converted.
