The video and their website are somewhat in disagreement as far as I can tell.

The confusing part is that the questions was asked about the internal GPU (860M) running physics not displays but apparently external monitors plugged into the 13" laptop would be run off the intel integrated card which probably can handle 2 external 1920x1080 UI monitors!

It's too bad that the 860M can't run physics because that would definitely open the door to some very complex graphics applications on top of having the ability to run multiple displays off the external GPU.

Thanks for clearing this with a lot of patient with the Alienware chat.

I can only speak for me...the Alienware hardware is pretty good but the support isn't. I will not blindly trust the chat support nor the written down information on their homepage. For me these information discrepancies only gives me a hint where I can expect a problem.

For example:
When the Alienware m18x R2 came out they wrote on their homepage that there are two hdmi OUT ports at the notebook. They also had a couple of hi-res pictures of the chassis to watch....on these pictures you were able to clearly see the labeling of the two Hdmi ports. 1x HDMI IN & 1x HDMI OUT.
I consulted the support chat three times and I had three different supporters. Each chat session they told me that the picture is wrong and there are two HDMI Out's on the m18x R2. But...there aren't! Only a phone supporter gave me a proper information.

They also where wrong with their answers to my question "if it is possible to run the internal and two external displays simultaneously without any active adapter with a ATI configuration?" They told me that this is possible...but..guess what?.... it isn't.

so...you see....I have totally lost my trust
In future I'm still willing to buy Alienware...but only because of the pretty damn good hardware...

Thanks Cosmowe for the head's up. I'm still very interested in this product as it seems like a great way to upgrade a system without having to buy a whole new setup.

But I hope they make it available for the bigger models with i7 processors and also provide an extension cable to allow the installation of remote units!

Its a proprietary cable that hooks PCIE and USB into a single line. Maybe someone like monoprice could reverse engineer the cable in the future if the demand is there, which is doubtful. Take the alienware gaming market and figure on a percentage who need the laptop and Videocard box 100FT away from each other. Not large i'd expect.

Right now the only cable that can handle the large amount of gigabytes in data is basically fiber for a long distance run. Alienware is in the gamer business, different then the professional but not professional solution market. Soon as they add they long distance cables, non tech savy gamers are gonna do silly things and the negative PR would be for a minimal profit. I think Magma box does have this solution tho, its not impossible tech, just unrealistic for a gaming company.

Why do you want to have the Grafik Box far away from your Laptop ?! You can easy (not cheap ) get some long Distance Cable beetween your grafikcard and your Projektor / Monitor...

still dont know why it matter how long the distance can be between your card and your laptop...

as far I understand the given information ...the internal gtx will be switched of if you plug in the graphic extension. The notebook screen will then be fired with an std. intel graphic chip.

If this is the case, then you basically couldn't use this for Resolume unless you brought a second control monitor and disabled the laptops display, since Res does all its rendering on the GPU that's powering the interface display.

I stumbled upon a pcie to fiber solution a while back, sorry no link, but it was unsurprisingly horribly expensive, and really not that feasible for anyone without extremely specific needs.
