Thank you, Im not sure if its the same model. Here is one of my rigs. These cards have outperformed what was expected from them.

I can confirm your issue with the AMD HD 7970.

Testsystem: Alienware m18x R2 Notebook / Win7 / Resolume5 / AMD 7970m / no display attached

- When I start a blank composition in R5 it shows me 166 fps with Vertical Sync ON
- When I set the composition to 7200x1200px the fps drops to 45 fps with no clips playing.
- After 15 seconds my GUI screens turns black and only Alt+F4 >> ENTER >> Strg+Alt+del brings it back

I tested it three times...same behaviour each time. There is obviously a general problem with AMD cards..or a problem with this particular model.

I'm glad I could help.

First of all...someone has to confirm it again... and it should be fixed. The 7970s are still doing a good job..and I don't want to buy another mobile graphic card for the Alienware notebook.

I would advice you to buy a modern nvidia card which fits your needs. Something between 250-400€.
Right now I'm using the gtx 970 and 970m in my systems...and I am very happy with them.

Trawling through these posts and the other ones you created, I think we can now bring the problem back to two cases:

cvanhoose has a problem with his 7970. On a 7200x1200 comp, the fps on Res 5 are not as high as on previous versions. The GUI functions normally.
