That's why you have a non functioning composition effects. Your using a layer as a slice source. This isn't a bug it's a handy feature.

Yes that is correct. 5 surfaces then 2 layers/slices that cover all 5 together.

Would be nice to have a global effect toggle.

Since you're in Arena 6, why don't you create two groups, Group 1 for the 5 layer that currently to to slices and Group 2 for the two layers that cover everything? Then assign the various slices to the different layers in the groups and choose Group 1 or 2 as the source for each slice. That way all you need to do is apply the effect(s) to the two groups;

As a note, I don't know how you comp and output is broken down but you might even be able to skip the groups and just use the comp as long as you retain your 7 slices in the advanced output.

You can map the same midi note to multiple effect toggles, so pushing a key could enable/disable more than one effect at once.
Also works with sliders, so you can adjust your effects in sync.
