I'm getting the same problem with a high end machine (AMD 64 X2 4400+, 2gb RAM, SLI 2x7800GTX, 2xWD 10000rpm RAID0 drive).

I have tried allkinds of resolutions and codecs but I can't get a 100% smooth playback in resolume, even with a single layer video on 400x300 (I get and odd drop frame now and then).

With this set up its possible to play up to 5 PAL resolution QT (mjpeg) movies simutaneously on desktop without a glitch.

Yeah, after seeing how crisp VJ Culture's footage looked, then plugging into the same mixer and seeing my 400x300 -> 800x600 output from Resolume, I've started to encode any new clip I create at both 400x300 and 640x480 -- trusting that Resolume will catch up soon.

Failing that, I guess I can always try to do like Grant and land some sponsorships. :)

I was writing on this b4 as anonymous, but it seems that some people just don't bother about that - if you use dynamic footage, drop frames are not such a big problem - you just dont notice that. Which may be a workaround, but if you want to have a flowing show, it resolume can make it hard.

Maybe it has sth to do with AMD processors? Most of the machines in this thread (including mine) are AMDs.
edwin, bart?

please please please comment on this bug -
you must have noticed that
what's the problem and is there any way to get rid of it?

yes we are aware that some people get some random stutters, we have seen it happen on some computers. Problem is that this is a hard one to fix, not everybody has the problem so it seems system specific but we have not been able to find exactly what is causing it ;-(

Thanks for info Bart.

It would be great to have a list of known hardware combos (mb, gfxcards, hd's, memory) on which resolume runs smoothly...

Also as I remember it that the very first beta of V2 played Ok, and it was only when you implemented strict loop timing that the ticks started as res dropped frames to keep the loop length the same. I would rather ride a speed controller than have ticks! Is there no way to have the option of strict or non strict playbacks?
Or is there anyway to release a patched beta1 that fixes the database issues it had? That would do me it for me, I've never used the audio, I like the feedback filter though!

Hi

Ive been testing out various VJ software as our company is moving into the presentation sector. We love the resolume interface but unfortunatly we can not get one rig out of our 5 to get it to play out smoothly , not even one stream, this is from a 1.6ghz laptop with a mobile radeon and 512mb , to a dual 3.4ghz xeon system with a raid 5 and Nvidea Quadro and 6 gig. All tested using MPEG1, M-JPEG,MPEG2, DV,Uncompreseed. Not once did we get any playback with out stutter or frame dropping. Seeing as the primary application for this software is playing out video, its a pity the engine to do so just doesnt work. All the other VJ software with demos work fine on all the rigs , flowmotion, Arkaos (even does it smoothly from laptop),MD4,Fuse..etc. Also found out the longer the clip, the worse the frame dropping, 4 minute clip, forget it.

Dont suppose the developers can tell us what rig they have got video out to work on, also what codecs are installed on that system

First, thanks edwin and bart for response...
A pitty that you haven't found anything to sort it out.

Wow - that sounds reasonable - maybe we're getting somewhere...

My config is:
Acer 5024WLMi
Hitachi 7k100 internal 7200 (default 4200 didn't work smoothly either)
1.25 GB RAM
radeon x700 128

was trying both with virtual mem on and off
the stutters are always there :(

And I also LOVE feedback - its just amazing and with some effect like panspinzoom+mirror and proper footage - its MAGIC.

it would be absoulutely great if those stutters could be solved in 2.4

IDEAL playback in 1.51

I thought, I'll give it a try with 1.51
Results were UNBELIEVABLE.
Thats actually the first time I got SMOOTH playback and at 30fps the difference is incredible - 3 layers playback Indeo, mjpeg everything smoothly and beautiful.
But where's feedback, banks and all the 2.3 goodies?
Where are freeframe effects ?

I could clearly see the progress Resolume made from 1.51 but playback was way better then!!!

Unfortunately, after that I turned the 2.3 back on and I could see even clearer how poor is a playback in new version of Resolume - it is not only the glitches every now end then. Actually the whole playback rate is far from constant - even on single layer.
Its so obvious now, after checking 1.51 :(

Edwin, bart...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try to do something with this in 2.4

It may be the strict loop implementation, cat mentioned.

B-continuos (u got the same lappy):
if you still think you get smooth playback - check out 1.51 with some slow, flowing footage
The difference basicaly threw me on my kneees.
