This behaviour is quite common for SSD's, especially larger ones. They only contain a small amount of fast storage and then a slow storage for the rest. When you write a file to it it will write it to the fast storage and then in the background move it over. This works great when files are smaller than their fast storage size, larger files (like the 500GB one) dont fit in the fast storage and thus you're bottlenecked by the slow storage speed.Transferring a 20 GB file between them is no issue. Happens quick and transfer rates are 3 GB/s. When I go to move a larger file, like the 90 minute DXV where the file is 500 GB the transfer rate starts super quick and then immediately drops to like 50 MB/s and estimates it will take 4 hours... I waited for a good 15 minutes before cancelling that.
Could you please compare this with Alley? For example when playing from C: causes Avenue to use 50% disk (which is probably Windows' way of saying 100% for 1 out of 2 disks). If you stop playback in Avenue and play that same file in Alley does the file play back better with less disk utilization there? We've done a significant rewrite for alley especially for inter-frame codecs like h264. It will still be a while until we can move Avenue over to the new video engine but it's good to know if we already have a solution for this issue or if there's something else that needs to be done. When I run Avenue and play any of the files (DXV, H.264, 6 or 90 minute) the disk is about 50% utilized as per Task Manager (about 150 Mb/s). Note this speed is the same for any of the file types or durations.
NoF) Would Resolume ARENA perform any different in the entire scope of this issue?
We get a few new machines each year so we got a wide spread of configurations. For macOS we're using M1 up to M4 for both MBPs and studios. For Windows we use NVidia GPUs but then the consumer level (ie RTX4080). CPU used to be intel (including some xeons) but the more recent ones are AMD.G) Odd ball question here but what does the internal Resolume team use for computers?
My office machine is Ryzen 7970x + AMD RX 7900 XT (not because it's amazingly good, more because we need a machine with AMD gpu to test

What is the disk's transfer rate when the files are on the other ssd?I was able to resolve it by moving the content to the other, identical, SSD, D:/
