5 live feeds

Post by 1mpar »

Hi, I need to stream 5 webcams in real time using resolume.
is this possible?

I'm trying to make it, but it seems that resolume can handle up to 2 cameras at the same time.
is there some alternative solution? quartz composer? syphon?

With 5 feeds, I would recommend using capture cards (Blackmagic Design cards work very well with Resolume) and external cameras (Component, HDMI or even better HD/SDI).

Are you on a mac or PC, laptop or desktop?

The initial setup was: 4 replayxd Prime X cameras with HDMI output, 1 switcher to capture the 4 cameras and send them to a blackmagic capture card. I also used 1 webcam. the problem is that the cameras are running out of power in the middle of the show and the micro-HDMI/HDMI adapter is very fragile and almost every show I have to buy a new one.
so I was trying to make it work with webcams, that don't need charging and the USB output is better than the micro-HDMI.
I tried many options, but couldn't make it work with more than 3 in resolume the maximum I can get is 2.
I seems to be an issue with the USB bus, that can't handle many inputs at the same time.
the question is: is it possible to capture many webcams at the same time?
I'm using a macbook pro

Have you considered using security cameras (SDI or component) instead of USB webcams? The advantage with security cams is that you can get long HD-SDI siamese cables with BNC video & 2.1mm power connectors.

Will SDI work over long distances with lower grade siamese cables?

Here's a Resolume based video switcher that I made. It allows you to use one monitor to preview all your sources and outputs. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=11678

I use them all the time for HD-SDI on low budget productions for both security cameras and regular HD signals (up to 150ft and 1080i60) and they work fine. I've also connected these to Blackmagic gear in a pinch without any issues. That is of course assuming you get good siamese cables.
