Video expandet and sound rattles

Post by resolumeuer1962 »

How can this be?

I have a "mov video" from about 80 Megabytes and I wanted to rerender with the DXV Codec, to optimize it for Resolume 4.

I redered the video in Adobe Premiere using the actual DXV codec, I downloaded here.

I let everything as it was, no change in framrates or resolution, no changes for the sound.
When I changed properties for the sound, I could not hear any sound, so I rendered again without changing sound.

After the rerendering, the video was 791 Megabytes large !!! and the sound was rattling.

Has anybody an explanation?

If every Video blows up the size, the encoder makes no sense.

Slow but sure, I ask myself, whether it was a big mistake to buy resolume, caus there are some other uncomfortable things inside (unsmooth Videos, no magnifying glasses in important parts of the software and so on.

The encoder makes much sense if you are getting to 8-10 layers of hd video playback, and your CPU won't have to do the rendering.

you have to set the sound codec to uncompressed wave, that will be played back just fine.
also you have to find a buffer size in Preferences - Audio that works for you.
I have mine se to 2048 and playback is smooth.

Does not matter, how I compress or do not compress the sound. It is always rattling or I hear nothing.
I thought it makes sense to render again with the Encoder, cause even if the videos just have only 50 Mbytes or so, they run not smooth.
The reason can not lay in the machine. It is an I7 Intel Processor, 12 Gigabyte RAM and an ATI Radeon Grafic Adapter and a 500 GB SSD Harddisk.

Seems to me, there is a problem on the sides of the developers. By investigating the Community I saw, that I am not alone with the smoothnessproblem. And it is not young. Even two years ago, they had the same problem and till today there is obviousely no solution in sight.

I made the mistake to test the software only for a short time, befor I bought it. Now, when I have a show next weekend, I must have solved the problems with the Software.

Thanks god, tehere is an alternate possibility, cause it is only a small exhibition, where I need only one projector to map a small surface with no big shapes. I can use a freeware for it, which is enough to position an already made animation by After Efrfects.

Seems to me, I wasted about 600 Euros out through the window.

Why don't you give us a chance to help you? - I'm pretty shure that your smoothness issue is not the same which is documented here:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10089&hilit=smooth ... k&start=10
Does not matter, how I compress or do not compress the sound. It is always rattling or I hear nothing.
Where is the sound rattling or silent?...in Resolume...or with the QT-Player? If your DXV coded clip is playing fine (Vid+Audio) with the Quicktime-Player and rattles in Resolume...you have to configure the right audio settings in Resolume like ravensc mentioned before. They are a bit different on each system related to performance and used audio device so we can not tell you what is the best for you.
But a good start can be Samplerate 44100 and Buffer Size 1024. Try playing around with the buffer size a bit... you will see it will affect the playback smoothness AND the audio playback quality.

One more thing...I'm sorry, I have to ask...did you set your clip in resolume from BPM-Sync to timeline playback?

Believe you me, not only you haven't wasted any money but you've come to the right place to get help.

An other approach would be to extract the audio to uncompressed wave and see if it plays fine on its own alongside the video without audio.

And as Cosmowe mentioned, make sure your video (and audio) clips are set to timeline at speed 1 or else the resulting effects may not be what you want.

Any chance you could share your artwork with us (ravensc, cosmowe and oaktown) privately so that we can test and get back to you?

I will try it the next days. Tomorrow and the day after I have to cut and edit a part of a movie in After Effects. It takes a lot of time, cause I have to create some FX.Effects (Timefreeze, Si-Fi- Laser Gun, fall from sky and a big fire with Alphachannelfootage).
So I hope I will have time on Wednesday.

I will do the suggestions you made and then we will see, what happens.
The chance to share the artwork is not good, cause I hae a very slow internetconnection ad it would take a mass of hours to send all the data.
I have only an uploadspeed from 300 Kbits a second in theory. In real I have maximum 120 Kbits.

Why don't you just share a short low-res DXV sample with audio?

I can try, but I ask myself, whether its a difference in the result, if a video is rendered as a low resolution video or not.
Iwill try it next days, cause, I told, I must edit a part of a movie till wednesday.

By the way: Did you read my Post here? viewtopic.php?f=12&t=11810
Do you have a solution?

Slower than normal playback and 'rattling' sound are clear indications that your buffer size is not set high enough, as Ravensc already suggested.

Just go to the audio preferences and set your buffer size to 2048 or maybe even higher, and you will be fine.

I had a short time to test it. Indeed it was the Buffersize.

Video is in time and no rattling of the sound anymore.

A tip to the manualwriters:

A "trouble shooting" part in the manual would make sense.
