Hello,
Resolume Arena 5 is crashing when I use a Cable Matters USB-HDMI adapter for my 3rd monitor. I have tried with various drivers for the adapter, and it crashes using all of these. This wasn't an issue with Arena 4.
Can anyone suggest a way of troubleshooting/fixing this?
Thanks,
Nick

Does it crash when you try to use the USB display as a resolume output or anytime it's connected?
Also, does it crash as well if you use it as your only external monitor?

Re: Resolume Arena 5 crashing with Cable Matters USB-HDMI ad
Keep in mind that using USB adapters to get an extra monitor have never been officially supported. We've always said the only reliable way to get multiple outputs is to use a graphic card that has multiple outputs.
Apparently, the new version of the Advanced Output of Arena 5 has broken output to a few such devices, such as Duet display, that were reported as working in 4 before. As much as it sucks if you were used to working with them, we can't go back and remove all the new stuff from Arena 5, just to have these unsupported devices work again.
If we find the time, we'll have a look to see if we can get Duet working again. So if you let us know which device you're having problems with, we'll be happy to add that to the list as well. Keep in mind this is not a guarantee that we're going to make it work. We're just going to do our best to help you out.

Thanks Joris.
The device is a Cable Matters USB-HDMI adapter, and yes Resolume 5 only crashes when I try to select an output when this adapter is connected, either on it's own, or with a third monitor connected using the standard thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.
I can buy a dedicated external graphics card for my Macbook Pro. Which are the recommended ones for use with Resolume?

Also, is this issue limited to 3rd party adapters? How would it be if I used a Mac Mini with the HDMI out connected to a monitor and the thunderbolt connected to a projector, using a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter?
Re: Resolume Arena 5 crashing with Cable Matters USB-HDMI ad
That should work no problems. The only thing is that when you use a DisplayPort and an HDMI output and you try to blend the two outputs there may be a sync issue. How would it be if I used a Mac Mini with the HDMI out connected to a monitor and the thunderbolt connected to a projector, using a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter?

Thanks Oaktown. It is still sounding like an external video card with two hdmi/digital outputs would be the best way to go. Which are the best/recommended cards to go for?

Just to be 100% clear, it's caused by the fact that you are using an *USB* adapter. Using your regular display outputs with 3rd party Thunderbolt adapters is fine.is this issue limited to 3rd party adapters
I've haven't kept my ear very close to the ground when it comes to these external video cards, so maybe somebody will chime in with how awesome they are.It is still sounding like an external video card with two hdmi/digital outputs would be the best way to go
Since you are running a relatively old 2010 MBP and want to stick with Mac, I would look into getting a new retina MBP with 3 outputs built-in.
