After downloading and installing the whole app is black even if I drag in a video file.

Could you send us the Alley log file?

Does Arena work fine on this machine?

I figured it out! Same issue here - installed & licensed arena 6 today, arena works fine. Alley comes up as a black interface - although the interface appears to load as I can grab the top application bar and move it around, as well as click on the (invisible) X on the top right corner and the app closes.

I looked at my log file and it said:
Renderer Name: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630

It should be using the Nvidia card, so I right clicked on Alley and clicked Run With Graphics Processor > High Performance NVIDIA. That fixed it. So either you can set the nvidia card as the default for all apps, or you can set it per app to save power.
