Hey there,
I bought Resolume Avenue about a week ago, and since have spent a lot of time building a composition over the last week -- everything has been pretty much stable, and i've been loading in dummy clips to test things. last night i loaded the clips that i want to use, everything was working fine, and today i woke up and was about to finish the comp but found that roughly half the clips were not working :/ as i'd been working with dummy clips prior to last night, it's hard to say if this is a new problem, or has been there all along.
I'm in Resolume Avenue 7.1.2 on this iMac:
i'm using 480p and 720p footage, encoded DXV3 normal quality 30 FPS with audio.
generally 2-4 layers visible at a time. no FX at the moment, pretty basic midi mapping w/the exception of composition transport being controlled through ableton.
generally speaking, most clips in columns 1-15 work, and then clips in columns after that are visible, but don't display video or audio when launched (the clip transport is moving but there's nothing in the clip window) the clip monitor displays black and grey checkerboard and no audio plays. sometimes beyond column 15 there is a random clip that may work with video only, no audio
When this problem is not happening, I can use the media manager just fine. When the problem is happening, using the media manager displays "searching" and never changes. Eventually this "searching" dialog crashes the program. When I re-open it, it asks if I want to send a crash report but if I click "yes" or "more info", Avenue crashes after a couple seconds, so i cannot send a report. Here are a couple screenshots I was able to get of the "more info" dialog box before it crashed:
Sometimes, this problem goes away on it's own after a little while but most of the time the problem persists.
Sometimes, if I quit and reopen the program, that solves the problem, most of the time it does not solve the problem.
Sometimes, if I restart the computer, that solves the problem, most of the time it does not solve the problem.
Sometimes if I create a new track and try to re-load the clips from finder onto a new layer, the clips don't show up visibly in the layer, but in the clip panel i do see something like the top squashed thumbnail as if Resolume thinks there's something there, though no thumbnail appears in the layer. Sometimes if I create a new track and re-load the clips, it works perfectly fine.
I've started up with and without midi controller attached, doesn't seem to make a difference.
I've started up with all peripherals detached, wifi disconnected, and all active programs quit, it doesn't make a difference.
I've booted in safe mode, Avenue wouldn't open. that seemed maybe to be normal as ableton wouldn't open either.
I tried toggling audio output didn't change anything.
I tried reinstalling avenue, it didn't change anything.
maybe random but maybe connected, i've noticed that sometimes file bar isn't displaying shortcuts correctly:
i've noticed that when there's just two layers, things seem to work okay. it seems like when i duplicate layers (either using the duplicate layer command, or new layer and copy/paste clips) that's when i start to run into problems. i thought maybe it's because mulitple clips were referencing the file, so i duplicated the clips on the finder level and gave them all unique filenames, but that didn't seem to help.
It seems like everytime I load a new project, I can load the footage into a new track just fine.
most recent log pasted below.
can anyone help me?? i'm completely at a loss for what to do. i'm really trying to avoid rolling back to a different OS version as my setup is stable otherwise on multiple other softwares and i don't want to mess that up.
thanks in advance for your help,
kyle

extremely buggy program behavior
Re: extremely buggy program behavior
i think i forgot to note that the bottom layer is around 38 columns, and as the layer go up there is less columns per layer.
also worth noting, something that seems to help the problem is to open a new comp before closing the program. then when i restart the program, it'll open to the new comp, and then i can file/open recent and select the comp i was working on -- that seems to help lower the chances that the project will open with problems.

Re: extremely buggy program behavior
is there a limit on clips per deck in Avenue?? i began pulling clips out, and as i did, i got more columns back on layer 1 and layer 2 -- the relationship seemed to be linear, so i kept pulling clips out of the deck.
previously the deck had probably around 150 clips and was unstable, and it seems to become stable once i get under 80 clips.
from other threads, i see that clips possible in a deck seems to be related to codec/resolution/RAM/OS. I see other people are running crazy numbers of columns, layers FX, etc. I'm sure they're using PCs -- i see from perusing threads that OSX is pretty shitty for resolume -- but I guess I'm just a bit surprised. i've got 72 gb of RAM which seems like a lot to me, this footage is very lo res and in the proper DXV3 codec. 5 layers with 2-4 active at a time, no fx -- that just doesn't seem that intense of demands, all things considered?
would love to hear people's thoughts. i work as a video editor so i know this world somewhat, but resolume is completely new to me so i really appreciate your experience and insight!

Re: extremely buggy program behavior
150 clips should open fine.
Sounds like you're running into the OSX open files limit.
The issue happens because OSX limits Resolume to only be able to open 256 files for some reason.
What you can do, would be setting the limits manually. This would require a bit of manual tweaking, but luckily we found a script which can do these tweaks for you.
Please open up Terminal.app and copy paste these lines into it one by one:
curl -O https://gist.githubusercontent.com/tomb ... 7b/load.sh
chmod +x load.sh
sudo ./load.sh
Press Enter after pasting each of them.
To verify it worked, please restart your machine, and open Terminal.app
paste this command and press Enter:
launchctl limit maxfiles
The response should say:
maxfiles 524288 524288
If that's the case, Resolume 7 should be able to open your composition and all the files in it.
If it fails, you might need to disable system integrity protection and try again: https://macreports.com/how-to-disable-a ... on-on-mac/
Let me know if this helps you further!

Re: extremely buggy program behavior
amazing! that seems to have completely fixed the problem. i was able to do it without disabling system integrity protection. thank you so much, really appreciate you zoltan! as film35HD said the other day, myself and surely the rest of the community is very lucky and grateful to have your wisdom & insight. cheers!
