OBS streaming with NDI - no audio

Post by manymanyhaha »

Video stream is working and audio is coming out of Resolume because I can hear it but for some reason, OBS is not showing any audio in either the Desktop Audio or NDI Source meters and no audio is being streamed.

Anyone have thoughts?

NDI out of Resolume does not carry audio. But your desktop audio should be working. You might check your OBS settings and specify your hardware vs leaving it to 'default'.

Ahh, thank you. I did not see that information, that audio was not in the NDI stream.

I did have Desktop Audio at one time before I started monkeying with everything to try to get the NDI stream audio. If I get it back, what are my next steps? Create an Audio Output Capture as a source and OBS will stream both that and the NDI stream together?

Are you on the same computer? If so, ditch NDI as NDI is only to be used for machine to machine. Use Spout/Syphon instead as it has no latency and doesn't use any resources.
At this point OBS's Desktop Audio should be reading anything that Resolume is playing in terms of audio. It just grabs whatever your speakers are playing. (Check your OBS Audio Hardware to make sure it's setup to listen to your speakers as the input.)

If you're on (2) seperate machines, then NDI is indeed the way to go (or external capture card). You would also need to send audio out of (1) machine to the other either via DAC or virtual sound card like Dante (via ethernet) and bring that in to OBS as an Audio In Device.

It's just one computer.

Thank you for that. I just found this tutorial on how to do it with Spout: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa-QugmLVtI

OBS will automatically stream desktop audio if it sees it? Or do I need to create a separate source?

If you can hear it on your speakers, OBS can grab it if the right hardware is set.

Been trying for awhile to figure out why my stream looked so pixelated and blurry. My girlfriend says she didn't see what I was talking about but I definitely could. Tried all kinds of things and then just went back to NDI as a source and it looks just like it does coming out of Resolume.

Why would the quality be so bad for Spout? My uneducated theory is that the Demo Spout Receiver that OBS is reading is a small screen and OBS is reading it like a screen shot so it is only reading at a tiny resolution.
