using switch to pass transport beat

I'm struggling to find info on how to make what I thought was a simple thing work.

I have a Transport Beat with 1/1 & 1/4 going into a Switch, the output of the Switch is going into Circulate.

If I connect any of the outputs of the Transport Beat directly to Circulate everything works.
If I connect the outputs of the Transport Beat to a Switch and then the output of the Switch to Circulate nothing happens.

I guess the problem is in the Switch settings but I can't find any info about them.

Try to use 'Gate' instead of 'Switch' (and yes the difference between them can be a bit confusing)
