patching midi keyboard

have the feeling im doing something slightly wrong... if i select a function from the list in the midi configuration window then select the box below the list.. is this when im ment to press the button my midi keyboard to successfully patch that function to that midi button... because it isnt working for me.... when ive selected the box below the list of functions should i see letters and numbers in the box when i press a button on the midi keyboard because im not.... resolume has detected my keyboard because i can see it in the device preferences....

anyone know what im doing wrong?

only want to do this temporarily to see which functions i want to trigger via showcad artist...

double click the function, the box becomes red, and can then "learn"
