Macbook and OSC

Post by melka »

Hi there

I know this question has been asked many times, but I still can't figure it out.

I've been running Resolume 2.41 for approximately a year now on my white macbook under bootcamp, and I did not have any problem.

But now, I have a customer who needs OSC support for his live videos, so I have to choose a new computer for him to buy.

Here's the problem : I need to have a computer that never crashes (oh sweet dreams) as I won't be able to VJ in live. Every clip will be triggered via OSC. The OSC messages will be send by a PC laptop running ableton live and a custom program written in Processing. The two computers will be connected via an ethernet cable.

I decided to go with Resolume 3 on an Apple laptop. The videos will be in 1280x1024, the video output will be digital (DVI). No need for analog video.

So, the simple question now : do you think that I need to go with the 2.4 GHz Macbook Pro model (with the 2 graphic cards) or just the 2.4GHz non pro Macbook ? The only difference I see is the second graphic card and the price tag.

Thanks you all ^^

We would definately recommend a Macbook Pro for Resolume 3. The videocard in the most recent model is very good and it runs Resolume very well in OS X and also Windows running on Bootcamp (speaking out of exeperience here).

Hi edwin
sorry for the late answer.
We ordered the latest macbook pro (unibody as they call them), the 2.4GHz one with a 7200rpm HDD and 4Gb of RAM.
Runs quite well, I might say. Still have to do extensive tests though, the framerate is still a bit low.

Cheers
