Taking a show on the road (Noob Qs)

Hi,
I've recently put together my first AV performance using Resolume Arena, Ableton Live and MadMadpper:
This worked quite well under a controlled environment although there were problems with low frame rates etc at points so a few versions had to be recorded until one looked good enough.
I'd like to take this performance out live but have a few questions about the best way to do it. There is some money available for this so mostly it's about getting the best out of the equipment I have and what needs to be purchased to get this running smoothly.
The set up in the video consisted of one laptop running Ableton Live sending OSC messages (triggering videos) across a WiFi network to a MacBook Pro (i7 2Ghz, 4Gb Memory, AMD Radeon HD 6490M) running Resolume Arena and MadMapper.
The Arena project was running at 1280x720 with all the videos encoded using DXV and using lower resolution copies of the videos when 3 or more were playing at the same time.
Any suggestions for getting the frame rates higher and a more consistent performance? Is the bottle neck here the graphics card? Would using SSD drives help? Would splitting Resolume and MadMapper across two machines (using a video capture card) be a better idea?
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Chris
